The Home Minister’s response to Arvind Kejriwal’s “Amit Shah will become PM” claim.
Home Minister Amit Shah said, “If Arvind Kejriwal considers this (interim bail) a clean chit, then his understanding of the law is weak.”
New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah targeted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday over the statement made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is preparing the ground for Shah to assume the position of Prime Minister in the future.
One day after being released from jail, Mr. Kejriwal launched an attack on PM Modi in his first press conference, referring to him as someone advocating for ‘one nation, one leader’, which hints at BJP’s push towards a ‘one nation, one election’ system.
Kejriwal is questioning BJP about the face of the Prime Minister from the India bloc. He mentions that Modi turns 75 next year on September 17th and he himself established the rule in 2014 that those aged 75 should retire, including Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, and Sumitra Mahajan.
“They will retire next year. They are seeking votes to make Amit Shah the Prime Minister. Will Amit Shah fulfill Modi’s guarantee?” The AAP chief said, “Those who have been granted interim bail for Lok Sabha election campaigning have completed three phases out of seven before June 1.”
Responding to Mr. Kejriwal, the Home Minister told reporters that the Chief Minister of Delhi is making a big mistake by saying that PM Modi will step down when he turns 75.
Arvind Kejriwal, as a representative of the Aam Aadmi Party and India Block, wants to state that there is no mention of such a provision (the 75-year-old age limit rule) in the BJP’s constitution. PM Modi is completing his term, and he will continue to lead the country in the future as well. There is no confusion in the BJP,” said Mr. Shah.
#WATCH “On the comment by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that ‘if BJP wins, Amit Shah will be PM’, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, ‘I want to say on behalf of Arvind Kejriwal and the INDI party coalition that there is no such provision mentioned in the BJP’s constitution. PM Modi is the one who is going…'”

The Home Minister raised questions about Mr. Kejriwal’s “misplaced confidence” and termed interim bail as a temporary relief, but nothing clears Delhi’s Chief Minister from the liquor policy issue, which led to former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s imprisonment.
Arvind Kejriwal has been granted interim bail to conduct election campaigning. He had petitioned the Supreme Court that his arrest was wrongful, but the Supreme Court did not agree. Interim bail has been granted only until June 1st, and it has been given for the month of June. “He will have to surrender before the agencies,” said Mr. Shah.
If Arvind Kejriwal considers this a clean cheat, then his understanding of the law is weak.”
“Under interim bail, Mr. Kejriwal cannot go to his office, cannot sign official documents, or go to the Delhi Secretariat. He will need permission from the Lieutenant Governor to sign any necessary documents.”
The Supreme Court has said that the Lok Sabha elections have prompted consideration of interim bail because at this level, it is not possible for the court to either debate or deliver a verdict on their plea challenging the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) arrest that posed a challenge.”
