Cricketer Yusuf Pathan will be contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as the Trinamool Congress candidate from Barhampur.
In a few days, former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan will be ready to showcase his batting skills on a different pitch. According to reports, Pathan is gearing up to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as part of Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress.
He is set to contest from the Behrampur constituency. The cricketer’s foray into politics aligns with the party’s strategy, as they prepare for the grand inauguration of their 2024 campaign, named ‘Jonogonjo Sabha,’ at the prestigious Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. During this mega event, TMC revealed the list of its 42 candidates, setting the stage for crucial electoral battles ahead.
Yusuf Pathan has been associated with the Kolkata Knight Riders team before. He has been instrumental in several matches for the Knight Riders franchise, making him highly popular in the city. Pathan has recently participated in various exhibition matches as well.
The Behrampur constituency is currently represented by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury from the Congress party. However, it is uncertain whether the Congress will field him again from the same electoral area. Having represented Behrampur five times in the Lok Sabha, there is a likelihood that he may choose to contest the elections once more.
Recently, there have been tensions in the discussions between the Congress and the Trinamool Congress regarding the alliance. Adhir Ranjan has pointed fingers at the TMC, leading to a breakdown in negotiations between the Congress and the Trinamool alliance, as Adhir consistently criticized the TMC.
Therefore, Yusuf may not have a walk in the park if he has to face an experienced politician.
