“Amit Shah warns facing ‘tough consequences’ as the Centre increases ban on Yasin Malik-led JKLF.”
“On Saturday, the Narendra Modi government announced that the ‘Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front’ will be deemed an ‘unlawful organization’ for a period of five years as it increases the ban on Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik’s organization.”
“Central Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the banned organization is involved in activities that promote terrorism and separatism in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that any individual challenging the security, sovereignty, and integrity of the nation will face severe legal consequences.”
“In 2019, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had imposed a ban on Malik’s organization under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA), a counterterrorism law. A few days prior to this step, the government had also banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI-JK) under Section 3(1) of the UAPA.”
Jekyll LF was also banned under the same provisions that empower the central government to officially declare any association as unlawful through a gazette notification.
