Ruturaj Gaikwad mentioned the single factor that led to CSK being eliminated from IPL 2024.
Gaikwad had a poor performance against RCB on Saturday. He was dismissed for a golden duck by Glenn Maxwell on the very first ball of the second innings.

After his team’s 27-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said that they couldn’t cross the line in the game at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Gaikwad had a poor performance against RCB on Saturday, getting dismissed for a golden duck by Glenn Maxwell on the very first ball of the second innings. Speaking after the match, Gaikwad said that the wicket in Bangalore was good and it was turning and gripping for the spinners.
They said that the team faced many challenges in the first game. They further mentioned that the absence of Matheesha Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman in the team was felt by CSK.
The CSK captain said that he is a bit disappointed after his team failed to secure a spot in the playoffs of IPL 2024.
It was a good wicket. For the spinners, it was turning a bit and gripping slightly. I was very happy with the target. To summarize the season, I am very happy with seven out of fourteen matches. Injuries and the absence of Conway made a big difference. From the first game itself, challenges came up, Pathirana got injured, and we also missed Fizz. When you have injuries, it becomes difficult to balance the team, but these things can happen. For me, personal milestones don’t matter much. Ultimately, we couldn’t achieve it, so personally, I am a bit disappointed as well,” he was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Talking about the match, CSK won the toss and decided to bat first. RCB, thanks to captain Faf du Plessis (54 off 39 balls, with three fours and three sixes) and Virat Kohli (47 off 29 balls, with three fours and four sixes), posted an impressive score of 218/5 on the board. They laid a solid foundation with a 78-run partnership, and Rajat Patidar (41 off 23 balls, with two fours and four sixes) and Cameron Green (38* off 17 balls, with three fours and three sixes) built a strong platform with a 71-run partnership for the third wicket.
Cameos from Dinesh Karthik (14 off six balls, with one four and one six) and Glenn Maxwell (16 off five balls, with two fours and one six) helped RCB surpass a total score of 200 runs.
RCB had to restrict CSK to below 201 runs to qualify for the playoffs and surpass their net run rate.
Chasing a target of 219 runs and aiming to secure a place in the top four, CSK quickly lost two wickets and were struggling at 19/2. Rachin Ravindra (61 runs off 37 balls with five fours and three sixes) and Ajinkya Rahane (33 runs off 22 balls with three fours and one six) combined for a partnership of 66 runs to steer the team in the match.
Rajasthan Royals had Chennai Super Kings at 129/6, but the partnership between Ravindra Jadeja (42* off 22 balls with three fours and three sixes) and MS Dhoni (25* off 13 balls with three fours and one six) posed a threat of a comeback in the match. However, Yash Dayal’s effort in the final over, saving 11 runs, restricted CSK to 191/7 in 20 overs.
Rajasthan Royals are currently in fourth place with 14 points, having won seven matches and lost seven. Chennai Super Kings, with the same win-loss record of seven each, are in fifth place due to their lower net run rate.
