Delhi: Section 144 imposed till March 12, restrictions on large gatherings ahead of farmers’ protest.
In anticipation of the upcoming farmers’ mega march tomorrow, Delhi has imposed restrictions on large gatherings until March 12. This decision comes amid concerns about potential unrest and security issues surrounding the planned protest.
As the proposed ‘Delhi Chalo’ march by farmers on February 13 approaches, security measures and traffic restrictions have been heightened along Delhi’s borders, especially at Singhu, Ghazipur, and Tikri.
Fortification of borders
Concrete blocks and iron spikes have been installed at the boundaries to prevent the entry of exhibition vehicles into the city, raising security concerns.
Farmers’ Mega March*
Farmers from primarily Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab are gearing up for tomorrow’s Farmer Mega March, demanding the repeal of laws guaranteeing the minimum support price (MSP) for agricultural produce. This demand was one of the conditions set by farmers when they withdrew their previous protest in 2021.
Impact on traffic
The implementation of these security measures has already impacted the traffic noise in border areas, causing inconvenience to commuters, especially on Monday mornings.
Demand for MSP Law
The purpose of the farmers’ march led by organizations in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab was to exert pressure for laws guaranteeing Minimum Support Price (MSP) for agricultural produce, a demand that continued from their previous agitation in 2021.
More than 5,000 security personnel have been deployed, and cranes and earthmovers have been used to place large containers, causing disruptions to the city. Several security barricades have been installed to prevent farmers from entering the national capital.
Prohibitory orders enforced
In order to maintain law and order, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CRPC) has been imposed in the Northeast districts of Delhi, signaling a strict stance by authorities to ensure peace and security during the upcoming March.
Delhi: Stringent security measures have been implemented in three bordering districts in response to the farmers’ protest.
